I had the opportunity this past week to freelance for Fiftytwo Showroom at the Miami Swim Show, and it was quite a whirlwind adventure. I spent the bulk of my time at the Miami Convention Center, a giant skeleton of a building , that suddenly found itself full of pop-up shops selling every kind of bikini that you could possibly imagine. Of course, we had the coolest spot, hosting 9 brands- let’s see if I can name them all- Adrianna Degreas, Osklen, Clube Bossa, Verano High, Tooshie, Olasul, Jo de Mer, Marzia Genesi Sea. Needless to say, we were very popular.
After spending the day working with buyers (and creating a mental checklist of personal orders), I had my evenings to enjoy Miami’s offerings. Given the choice, I would have probably spent every night kicking it by the pool at our hotel The Standard. I’ve never been to St. Tropez but I think that is what it would be like. The pool had the greatest concentration of attractive people I think I’ve ever seen. All of a sudden I understood why the Miami Swim Show is located in Miami- cuz they make bikinis look gooood.
But thankfully my coworkers had more initiative than I did, so I guess you might say we painted the town red. We hit up the SLS and the Delano, checking out all of Phillip Starck’s many chairs. We ate clam pasta at Cafe Bianca then headed downstairs to the FDR room, we went to a party in honor of Brazilian designers, not to mention a ping-pong tournament that I pretty much won- ya, I’m awesome.
It’s lovely being back home, I don’t feel quite as pale here, but now I understand what Will meant when he said “And we ride on them things like everyday”
