The ice age is coming, the sun’s zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running but I have no fear
Cause London is burning and I live by the river
Maybe it was my recent viewing of Titanic in 3d or the newly released Beasts of the Southern Wild, but icebergs seem to be on my mind. In Titanic, the berg springs out of the night’s darkness as the twelve horsemen of the apocalypse, bringing a cold and wet death to rich and poor alike.
In Beasts of the Southern Wild, we see icebergs through the imagination of a young Bayou girl. As global warming tears them down in a crackle of sound that I can only describe as immensely satisfying, the tomb of ice slowly melts, and releases trapped prehistoric creatures, resurrecting beasts of yesteryear.
Regardless of whether icebergs represent life or death, their image is immensely moving to me. They hold so much weight in our society; a past, a political debate, a warming, a cooling, and much more. So I wanted to share these eerie images and get your reaction to them, do they conjure up sadness, nostalgia, or what?
