The Wild Ones

In novels, going back to nature is equated with deviousness and unbridled sexuality. Forests are synonymous with a walk on the wild side. The classic example is the Scarlett Letter- The puritan town is contrasted with the Forest- as a space where human rules do not apply. Hawthorne writes ” The forest was so black and dense, admitting so little light, that it seemed to Hester to represent the moral wilderness in which she had been wandering.”

I prefer the transcendentalist view of the natural world, where  it is  a step above the human one. A place to seek refuge and enlightenment. In his essay, Nature, Emerson wrote at length about the beauty that he  found, “The primary forms, as the sky, the mountain, the tree, the animal, give us a delight in and for themselves; a pleasure arising from outline, color, motion, and grouping. ”

In this photovshoot we see the beauty that he spoke at length about, one enhanced by proximity to the natural world.
